Dual Perspective Integration
This course blends twenty-seven years of hands-on clinical massage therapy and clinic ownership with professional social work insights. This unique intersection allows you to learn somatic approaches and trauma-informed care from an instructor who deeply understands both the psychological nervous system and the physical realities of the treatment room.
Immediately Applicable Treatment Room Tools
Instead of dense theory, this curriculum focuses entirely on practical, grounded methods for nervous system regulation during hands-on care. It includes downloadable, printable resources designed to instantly support clear clinical communication and improve session comfort for both the therapist and the client.
Focus on Longevity and Clinical Boundaries
A dedicated practitioner self-reflection guide is built into the framework to help you navigate complex somatic responses safely. This resource protects your energy, prevents professional burnout, and strengthens your clinical boundaries so you can sustain a long, healthy career in bodywork.
About the course
Not everything your client brings to the table is physical. People carry their stress, their grief, their long weeks and hard years into your room, and their bodies hold all of it. You feel it under your hands: the shoulder that will not release, the breath that catches, the client who goes quiet or quietly starts to cry. Something is happening that is not really about the muscle. Your training taught you anatomy, not nervous systems. So when the emotional shows up in the physical, and it will, you are left improvising. Hoping you responded well. Not always sure where your role ends. Sometimes carrying the weight of it home with you, long after the client has gone. This five-module continuing education course bridges the gap between hands-on treatment and trauma-informed somatic care. Drawing on a long career in clinical massage therapy, clinic ownership, and social work, it gives you practical, grounded tools for working with the nervous system in the treatment room, the client's, and your own. You will learn to read what the body is holding, respond to emotional moments with skill and clear boundaries, and stay grounded through it all, without stepping outside your scope. Includes a practitioner self-reflection guide and printable tools to support communication and care for both therapist and client.
Lara Clement RMT/SSW
Registered Massage Therapist with almost 3 decades of bodywork experience and over two decades of clinic ownership, combining hands-on somatic bodywork with a professional background in social work, counselling, Life Coaching, and group facilitation. My practice sits at the meeting point of the two: an understanding of the body and of the nervous system, shaped by years of working with people through stress, trauma, and change. Alongside clinical practice, I have developed and delivered training throughout my career, from employment and life-skills programs to mentoring massage practitioners in my own clinic. This combination of manual therapy, trauma-informed background, and teaching experience is the foundation for my continuing education work, published under the education brand The Body Informed Practitioner.

When the Body speaks has expanded my toolbox as a Massage Therapist. Lots of valuable insight and information that was not discussed in massage school 10 years ago! Thank you, this has helped me understand my client's nervous system as well as MINE.

It’s simple AND effective. Very engaging throughout the whole read. I love that it’s addressing not only the client’s nervous system but also the practioner’s as well. I feel it’s perfect for everyone, even seasoned practitioners. Some of the questions are deep which is great because it helps a person to actually take the time to go there and understand themselves more.
